Manos Nychas has successfully defended his PhD thesis, “Microbiome System Approaches Targeting Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease,” on 11 December 2025 at HKI. The defence marks a milestone in understanding how the gut microbiome and host systems interact to influence the development and progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
In his research, Manos applied a comprehensive systems biology framework to integrate multi-omics data (genomics, metabolomics, and microbiome profiling) with computational modeling. The work explores how microbial communities and their metabolites modulate liver metabolism and inflammatory pathways, and it proposes therapeutic strategies for microbiome-targeted interventions in NAFLD.
Congratulations to Manos!
