Two interdisciplinary publications with contributions from members of the Microbiome Dynamics team have received the medac Research Award 2026.

In the study “Antibacterial Siderophores of Pandoraea Pathogens and their Impact on the Diseased Lung Microbiota”, Xiuqiang (Stephen) Chen analyzed sputum samples and showed that a newly identified gene cluster in Pandoraea is associated with changes in the lung microbiota of cystic fibrosis patients.

In the study “How fungi strengthen their defenses — and how we could break through them”, Dr. Sascha Schäuble analyzed transcriptome data and identified functional differences in genes linked to antifungal resistance.
